SUPPORT INCREASED ACCESS TO EYE CARE IN ALABAMA

Senate Bill 114, by Senator Tom Whatley, has been introduced in the Alabama Legislature.  Doctors of Optometry, who practice in almost every county of the state, enable Alabamians to have local access to safe, quality primary eye health care. Optometrists are doctoral level health care providers just like dentists, podiatrists and physicians. The bill would expand the types of procedures that optometrists can perform.  Passage of this bill would allow patients to receive these procedures close to home by the doctor of their choice. These procedures would be performed in the office and would not require general anesthesia.
