Optometrists should take the time now to review their existing malpractice insurance coverage to assess if it is going to provide protection in the new HIPAA environment. While it would appear to be logical to assume that breach of confidentiality coverage is still in full effect, HIPAA is making the insurance industry so nervous that chinks may begin to appear in your insurance armor.
